7 Tips to Improving Your Web Presence

Just about everyone has a website these days, but what is the magic pill that makes one better than an other? Why do some get huge amounts of traffic, while others seem to get very little? There are many factors that play a role in this—with content playing the leading part. May times people create a web site, add text copy and pictures...and wait for the magic to happen. As with anything else, without proper care and maintenence, a potentially great site can turn into a waste very quickly. If your site is one of the latter, you can pump some life into it with a few simple changes, such as adding a blog with lots of informative content that speaks to your particular demographic. Here are a few more tips to get your site ranked as it should:

1. Add a call-to-action offer either at the top or on the sidebar of every single page. The offer can be the same throughout, but it should be compelling, so that visitors will want to leave their contact information.

2. Update your site or blog on a regular basis. Don’t treat your web site like it's a digital brochure. Instead, you should think of your site as an ever changing communication avenue. Adding new content regularly will keep the communication between you and your visitors flowing.

3. Your site should be responsive to mobile devices. Today, a majority of people surf the Web on their phones or tablets. Offering a poor mobile experience could cost you sales.

4. Use a clean design. A professional-looking logo is paramount to this—nothing drives away potential customers faster than a messy and cluttered website and an unprofessional logo. A good rule of thumb for logos is that if you can shrink your logo down to fit on the side of a pencil and it is still easily readable, you probably have a good logo.

5. Have buttons linking to the major social media sites (and vice versa). Don’t isolate visitors. Linking to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and YouTube is a MUST!

6. USE VIDEO! in today's ever changing internet world, tech savvy professionals know how to use video on their sites and social media to create excitement for their product or service.

7. Finally, don’t overlook the importance that RELEVANT content plays in creating the stats you want to see, particularly having the right amount of content. Too much content can be intimidating and drive potential customers elsewhere, and too little content can question your company's legitimacy. Your web site should have all of the information a reporter would need to write a full story about your business: who, what, when, where, why and how.
